The HSM Powerline StoreEx HDS 150 has a throat wide enough for 3.5 inch drives and is rated T-1, E-2 and H-3 under DIN 66399, which in practice means one machine deals with the whole mixed pile: hard drives, solid state, DLT, Ultrium and LTO tapes, CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray, USB sticks, credit and identity cards, phones and PDAs. Throughput is up to 210 hard drives an hour. Shred size is a 40mm strip. That is coarser than some specifications ask for, so if your information security policy names a particle size, send it to us before you book and we will tell you honestly whether we can meet it or whether you need a different process. Our handling of the media, from collection to certificate, runs under controls aligned to ISO 27001.
Two things decide whether we can shred inside your building: power and floor. Power is straightforward, because the machine will run off a normal three pin 13 amp socket, and where there is no usable supply in the loading bay we bring the 7kw Hyundai dual fuel generator and work out of the back of the van, which keeps the whole operation self contained and off your electrics. Floor loading and lift access are the harder question, which is why we ask for a survey, or at minimum a walk through video and photographs, before we commit to a date. If the machine cannot come up, we shred in the loading bay or in the vehicle, and anything that has to leave the building intact goes into tamper evident sealed cases with the numbers recorded.
The certificate of destruction is built from a handheld barcode scan of every media type and serial number, not from a headcount at the end of the day. We photograph the process on request. Where you would rather have drives wiped and kept in service than shredded, we erase to the NIST 800-88 standard and issue that report instead. Afterwards the shredded material goes to our approved precious metal refiners and the stripped chassis go through an Approved Authorised Treatment Facility that issues WEEE certification, all of it moving under our own Environment Agency waste carrier, broker and dealer registration, upper tier, Reg No CBDU551195. If you want the whole retirement handled rather than just the media, that is our ITAD service and it uses the same paperwork.
